Manchester United Vs. Manchester City: Wayne Rooney Wonder Goal Recaptures Lead For United

If this doesn't go down as Wayne Rooney's most memorable goal, it may go down as his best. An acrobatic effort from the middle of the City area saw the 5'9" Rooney elevate and bring his right foot up for a Nani cross, putting his shot into the upper right hand corner of goal. Goalkeeper Joe Hart had not chance to prevent Manchester United's go-ahead goal, the Red Devils up 2-1 after 78 minutes.

The play started with Rooney somewhat flubbing a ball played back to Paul Scholes at the edge of the attacking third. The midfielder quickly played a ball wide to Nani, who put a cross in toward the far post, where both Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs were.

The ball swung slightly, away from the edge of the six, allowing Rooney to create some space between himself and Micah Richards. The United forward jumped with his ball to goal, leaned back to bring his right leg up, and met the ball at the peak of his jump. A wonderful goal, brilliantly timed, put United ahead.
