Why Frederic Piquionne started on the bench for West Ham is a mystery. Perhaps Avram Grant was looking to shake things up, though Piquionne has rarely been West Ham’s problem. And as if to illustrate Grant’s error, Piquionne created a goal within seconds of coming on, bringing West Ham to within one of West Brom after 58 minutes.
West Brom Vs. West Ham: Frederic Piquionne Insertion, Carlton Cole Goal Has Hammers Within One
The goal came after a foul was given West Ham, 24 yards from goal, in the middle of the field. Mark Noble chipped a ball to the right side of the area where, remarkable, Piquionne was unmarked. Nobody was within six yards of him. The tall attacker headed the ball across goal, allowing Carlton Cole to redirect it in.
Though the England international was shaken up by a collision that occurred while he went for the all, Cole still brought his team within one. Now with the traveling East Enders having found their voices, West Ham is only down 3-2 to West Brom.
