Roma did well to take the lead in their UEFA Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, but it took them just one minute to give that lead away. Jadson, Shakhtar’s great attack-minded midfielder who has just recently worked his way into the Brazil senior team was the man who scored the goal, thanks to some help from a deflection.
Roma Vs. Shakhtar Donetsk: Jadson Scores Instant Equalizer
The goal was a sloppy one, but they all count the same. Picking up a deflected pass at the top of the box, one that appeared to be an attempt at a ball across the box by his countryman Willian, Jadson blasted a shot towards the center of the goal. That shot never got to Roma goalkeeper Doni, as it took two deflections, one appearing to come off of the back of Phillipe Mexes, and bounced into the back of the goal.
Shakhtar will feel like they have a great chance to advance in the Champions League even if they don’t win or draw tonight, now that they have an invaluable away goal. The presence of that away goal could lead to a change in mentalty for Roma, who may now feel that they have to score multiple times.
