After a cagey first half between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan at the San Siro in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, the second half has opened up. No longer is Bayern just knocking it around and Inter have found a bit of space in the counter-attack to liven the match up with chances for both side. As is to be expected, the chances and brilliance have come from two of the best players on the pitch, Arjen Robben and Samuel Eto'o.
Inter Milan Vs. Bayern Munich: Second Half Opens Up With Robben & Eto’o
The first half was marked Munich’s ability to dominate possession, but it was also marked by their inability to make anything from those chances. Well, the opening 10 minutes of the first half has been a marked by more Bayern possession, but they finally have some chances to accompany it and it is thanks to Robben.
Just a few minutes into the second half Robben found the ball with space on the right side and expertly picked out Thomas Muller making a near post run, but Muller wasted the fantastic chance and the ball went wide of the post. For all their possession, it was Bayern’s first real chance of the match.
Not long after Robben chose to take care of things himself and was denied by only the post. The Dutchman wandered all the way around to left, took the ball 20 yards from goal and then came all the way back to the right, avoiding three would-be Inter defenders along the way before beating Julio Cesar, but failing to beat the right post.
Inter got a chance for themselves when Eto’o brought a ball down off his chest fantastically from 15 yards and danced past a defender, but for the second time in the match Thomas Kraft was there to make a good save to deny Eto’o.
Of course Robben could not be outdone. The winger danced around from left to right this time to give himself space straightaway and 20 yards from goal, but he couldn’t do any better than blast the chance over the bar.
