Manchester United certainly deserve their goal, having scored thanks to a nifty finish from striker Javier Hernandez and then hitting the post via Portuguese winger Nani's swerving shot soon thereafter. Wigan, on the other hand, probably will feel hard done by. They've had several opportunities to turn the ball home and have totally failed to capitalise on them, denied by a combination of fine goalkeeping from Edwin van der Sar and majestically incompetent crossing and finishing.
Wigan Athletic Vs. Manchester United: United Lead 1-0 At Halftime
Roberto Martinez's men are doing an excellent job controlling the middle third of the pitch and United's lead is very much against the run of play, but when you can't convert your chances, you're probably not going to get a great result. It's slightly bizarre to see a midfield of Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, and Darren Fletcher being dominated by Ben Watson, Mohamed Diame, and James McCarthy, but it's certainly happening today. I don't think Sir Alex is going to be very pleased with the way the bulk of his team has played in the first half. Wigan still have a chance at getting back into this one.
