Through most of the first half, Newcastle looked on the brink of a second goal, with Bolton seemingly out-muscled on the various dead ball chances the Magpies have been afforded. But in the 38th minute, it was the Trotters who were good for the next goal, with Chelsea loanee Daniel Sturridge again making his mark for Bolton. With a left-footed finish from inside the arc, Sturridge has tied the match at one.
Newcastle Vs. Bolton: Daniel Sturridge Pulls Bolton Even In 38th Minute
The opportunity came after some short passes from Bolton at the edge of Newcastle's third finished with Johan Elmander on the ball, with Newcastle left back Jose Enrique in front of him. Moving the ball from his left foot to his right, Elmander set up a pass toward the middle for Sturridge. The 21-year-old attacker set up a shot on his left foot before the Magpie center halves could close him down, beating Stephen Harper for the equalizer.
Though Newcastle had seemed primed for a second goal, it would be generous to the Toon to call Sturridge’s goal against the run of play. The match has been open, with both sides able to traverse the middle of the park and get into each others’ final third. Most of Bolton’s chances had gone wide or been blocked.
