Not long after Sunderland almost found themselves an equalizer Everton restored some justice to the match at Goodison Park with a goal to give the home side a deserved 2-0 lead. The Black Cats hit the underside of the bar in the 28th minute and looked like they would wake out of their slumber, but Jermaine Beckford's second goal of the match put the Toffees ahead by a pair of goals in the 38th minute and put Sunderland well on their way to a fourth consecutive loss.
Everton Vs. Sunderland: Jermaine Beckford Makes It Two As Toffees Push Ahead 2-0
While Beckford grabs the headlines with his brace it is Mikel Arteta who deserves all the plaudits for the Toffees second goal. The Spaniard showed a great bit of skill and class in beating John Mensah in the box. With the defender in his wake, Arteta ran the ball to the end line before dragging it back for Beckford who had the simplest of finishes.
Thus far for Everton it has been a very good team effort from Everton. Beckford has a brace, his first coming thanks to a great ball from Leon Osman and his second from Arteta's work. Louis Saha has come back and helped Everton keep possession, while Tim Howard did exceptionally to tip the ball onto the bar when the score was 1-0 and keep the Toffees ahead. Now Everton will have to see out the rest of the match, something that is to be expected with how much better they have been than Sunderland.
