Blackburn Rovers mistakes just keep coming, and again, the mistake was lethal, with the own goal by Grant Hanley giving Aston Villa the 2-0 lead. The visitors conceded four corners in a row, with Blackburn unable to catch on to Villa's short corner routine, which they tried twice out of the four chances. The goal came from a longer corner taken by Stewart Downing, with Richard Dunne getting the flick on with his head. The ball fell to Marc Albrighton, who slotted the ball in. A mess inside the box saw Ciaran Clark getting a touch, but then Rovers defender Hanley stuck out a leg in an attempt to knock the ball out for yet another corner. Unfortunately for the 19-year-old, the ball came off his shin and into his own net.
Aston Villa Vs. Blackburn Rovers: Grant Hanley Own Goal Gives Villa 2-0 Lead
62 minutes in and Aston Villa have a 2-0 lead. A possible disaster for Blackburn, but with Villa's weakened defense (they have young midfielder Fabian Delph slotted in at righback, and another youngster, Clark, in central defense) a point isn't yet out of reach.
