Manchester United step up the gears as Wigan are capitulating at the DW Stadium. A perfectly placed long pass out of defence by Darren Gibson releases Dimitar Berbatov down the United right, and he raced clear of Wigan's rather pathetic defence, with Wayne Rooney accompanying him. One, two, three touches and the Bulgarian was right on top of Ali Al-Habsi, desperately racing out of his net to foil the Bulgarian. Unfortunately for Wigan, that third touch was a centering pass to Rooney, who was left with a tap-in from six yards into an empty net. He didn't miss.
Wigan Athletic Vs. Manchester United: Wayne Rooney, Fabio Da Silva Score, Make It 4-0
And, amazingly, united are still scoring goals. Nani, the victim of several bollockings from Patrice Evra, Edwin van der Sar, and then Sir Alex Ferguson, has been hauled off with Fabio da Silva taking his place, and the young Brazilian had been on the pitch for just minutes when he smashed the ball home from close range after a cross evaded everyone and fell to him at the back post. Fabio had time to control and shoot past Al-Habsi at the beleaguered keeper's near post. It's now 4-0 Manchester United and at the rate things are going it could be even more fairly soon.
