It seems that there’s nothing that Necaxa can do to grab three points this season. They peppered the Morelia goal with shots in the second half, including one that crossed the goal line. Legally. Yet, neither the referee or the linesman saw the ball cross the line, ala Frank Lampard in the World Cup, as Monarcas Morelia limped their way into a 0-0 draw and an unearned point.
Necaxa Vs. Monarcas Morelia: 0-0 FT, Necaxa Can’t Buy A Break
Incredibly, the referee and linesman made a second error on the 67th minute non-goal. Not only did the ball cross the line, but when Sergio Blanco headed in the rebound, he was flagged for offside. He was not offsides. It was a ridiculous comedy of errors that robbed a deserving Necaxa side of a win. Unsurprisingly, Necaxa manager Sergio Bueno was so upset with the decision that his protests resulted in a sending off.
Morelia had an incredible lack of ambition for a team that was going up against a relegation battler, which is hardly a new development for them. Still, they somehow sit in third place in Group 3.
Necaxa, meanwhile took another step towards relegation tonight. Their coefficient is so poor that a draw actually moves it up. They’re currently miles behind the other relegation battlers. They will need to take somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 points from their last 12 games to avoid the drop.
