The half hour mark has seen the matches first half-decent chances. For the second time tonight, an interception in the Liverpool end has led to a chance for Fernando Torres. While his early shot went well high, his 31st minute chance was blocked by a sliding Jamie Carragher, tracking Torres across the box, from his right-central defender position.
Chelsea FC Vs. Liverpool FC: Maxi Rodriguez’s Missed Sitter Keeps Sides Even, 0-0
Moments later, Raul Miereles trickled a shot from 18 yards right at Petr Cech, a mishit that would be overshadowed by a missed sitter in the 32nd minute. Then, Steven Gerrard, from the left side of the box, put a perfect ball to the far post, splitting `keeper and defense, creating a sitter for Maxi Rodríguez. The Argentine, however, put the ball off the crossbar, missing an open net from three yards out.
It was, by far, the best chance of the match, and while it would be hard to describe it as against the run of play, Chelsea had looked the more likely to score throughout the match's fist 30 minutes. That's not to say Chelsea looked likely to score. Neither side did, which is why Liverpool's chance and Maxi's miss were so surprising.
Now in the 36th minute, the match remains 0-0, and although Chelsea has resumed their control of the match, there is now the air of promise surrounding Liverpool.
