Steven Gerrard has decided that travelling to Denmark on Wednesday to play in an international friendly simply isn't worth his time after picking up a minor injury during Liverpool's 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend. It's hard to blame him, what with the match being totally pointless and all. He's not the only one who's dropped out: Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor, a new father, will be skipping the trip for 'personal reasons' - I'm assuming that has something to do with the baby rather than him just hating Scandinavians/Capellos. Ben Foster and Peter Crouch aren't fit either. Replacing the four who'll be missing are West Ham United luminaries Carlton Cole and Rob Green, meaning that Fabio Capello is down to a 17-man squad already.
Steven Gerrard Highlights England Withdrawals
With Gerrard absent, Rio Ferdinand injured, and John Terry disgraced, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will presumably captain the side in their quest to... do whatever they're doing in Denmark, I suppose. Explore tactical inadequacies in new and hilarious ways? Get more players injured ahead of a hideously congested European and domestic schedule? You tell me.
