Manchester United winger Nani will be absent for at least three matches following a leg wound caused by a flying Jamie Carragher tackle before half time as United lost 3-1 to Liverpool last weekend. Nani had taken some flack from fans and pundits for his reaction to the tackle, which saw him jump up to confront several Liverpool players, including captain Steven Gerrard, before falling down again in what was presumed to be mock agony. As it turns out, the Portuguese winger had plenty of reason to be in pain - he had sustained a deep, bloody gash near his knee thanks to being raked by Carragher's studs.
Nani To Miss Up To Three Weeks With Leg Injury
United had said that they would assess the player this week, and despite being able to close the wound with stitches it looks as though Nani will miss at least the home FA Cup quarter-final match against Arsenal, the Champions League knockout fixture against Marseille, and a Premier League match at home to Bolton. Nani has been one of the club's brightest sparks so far this season, and his injury comes at a time where the rest of the team has been stumbling.
