Steven Gerrard Groin Injury Sidelines Liverpool Captain For Four Weeks
Gerrard didn’t travel to Portugal for the Reds’ 1-0 defeat against Braga, instead taking the decision to have the problem corrected via surgery. Gerrard, who has already gone under the knife, will now miss the return leg against Braga, at least three Premier League matches, and two England fixtures including the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales, but after a string of sub-par performances, presumably due to this injury, it’s the right decision to make. Liverpool, currently in sixth place in the league are chasing Europa League qualification and need their players fully fit during the run in. A healthy Gerrard could make all the difference over the last few weeks of the season. An unhealthy Gerrard could make a difference too, but not in the way his manager or the fans would really appreciate.
