Johan Djourou’s Shoulder Injury ‘Less Serious Than Feared’

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou's injury may not be as bad as previously feared according to the Swiss FA, in a statement seemingly at odds with Arsene Wenger's assessment that he'd lose Djourou for the remainder of the season following a dislocated shoulder incurred during the Gunners' 2-0 defeat in their FA Cup quarter final match against Manchester United last weekend. The statement, which comes via the BBC, claims that the injury is less serious than feared and that Djourou may return before the end of the season:

The shoulder injury to Johan Djourou is less serious than feared on Saturday and announced by the coach of his club.

The Arsenal defender and member of the Switzerland national team was submitted to thorough medical examinations on Monday.

At the end of a long exhausting day, Johan Djourou had new hope that his season is not over yet.

The centre back, who had established himself as part of Wenger's first-choice pairing alongside Laurent Koscielny, was involved in a collision with teammate Bacary Sagna as he attempted to clear the ball from danger and had his arm wrenched out of the socket after getting it caught around the right back's trailing leg. Shoulder dislocations aren't the same issue in football as they are for many other sports, but they're still highly painful and have lengthy recovery times. Djourou, however, may be back sooner than later - if true this is obviously fantastic news for Arsenal fans.
