Arsenal fans, it seems have had such a terrible month they find it difficult to recognise good news when it comes barrelling towards them. Or perhaps they're simply realists about how good Johan Djourou actually is (very good compared to Sebastian Squillaci is perhaps the dictionary definition of damning with faint praise). Djourou, of course, suffered a dislocated shoulder in the 2-0 loss to Manchester United when he got tangled with right back Bacary Sagna, but rather than being ruled out for the season as first feared he will instead be back in training 'in about a month'.
Djourou’s Return May Help, But Don’t Count On It - The Short Fuse
At the Short Fuse, SB Nation’s Arsenal blog, Ted Harwood writes that Djourou’s accelerated return may help the Gunners in the crucial late-season clash against United, who currently lead the league by five points. However, he’s not exactly expecting the Swiss centre half to lead them to victory:
[Expecting this news to matter] assumes quite a lot: 1) that Djourou won't have as torrid a time along with his teammates as they had against Manchester United in the FA Cup two weekends ago, when the Red Devils countered with excellent effect up the flanks; 2) that Arsenal and Manchester United will be within mathematical touching distance, which is possible, but in question; 3) that an alien scout ship does not decide to land on London Colney between now and May Day, subordinating the inhabitants of northwestern London to its will and, more pertinently, landing on top of Djourou and Robin van Persie, dislocating the former's other shoulder and spraining the latter's ankle.
I think even the most optimistic fan of the Gunners will concede the point there.
