It's 0-0 after an incident-packed half at Old Trafford, but despite the fact that the match is all-square at the moment, Manchester United will be fairly happy about how the game's gone. With an injured-hit side going up against a very strong Bolton Wanderers side, they've been fairly comfortable on defence and dangerous on the ball, even if they are mostly playing on the counterattack. And besides, news has reached the crowd that main title rivals Arsenal are 1-0 down to West Bromwich Albion.
Manchester United Vs. Bolton Wanderers: 0-0 At Half Time
The most controversial incident must surely be the clear-cut penalty denied to Manchester United in the 10th minute following what appeared to be a definite Gary Cahill handball. Wes Brown had nodded down a corner at the far post for an onrushing Javier Hernandez, who looked certain to score with his snapshot until the ball met with the England international's outstretched arm in the six yard box. The rules are pretty clear there - that was a penalty. Instead, United got a corner and have every right to be furious.
Later on in the half Wayne Rooney nearly gave the hosts a lead with a spectacular overhead volley reminiscent of his winner against Manchester City only to see his shot fly straight into the arms of Jussi Jaaskelainan. Shortly thereafter Daniel Sturridge had a similar chance, but the 20 year-old's technique isn't quite as developed as Rooney and he completely fluffed his lines. All in all, United have had the better of the chances, while Bolton have edged them in possession - not much of a surprise as Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick are up against a three-man midfield.
