C.J. Sapong's second minute goal was the difference between Sporting Kansas City and Chivas USA for most of the first half, the rookie striker taking advantage of an awful error by Chivas midfielder Ben Zemanski to slot home past goalkeeper Zach Thornton and give Sporting KC an early lead. Despite that very quick goal, it had been a fairly even match, with Jimmy Nielsson busy in the Kansas City goal as the hosts have thrown attack after attack forward. However, Omar Bravo managed to score with a cheeky lob over Thornton in first half injury time, and Sporting will take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Chivas USA Vs. Sporting Kansas City: Sapong, Bravo Goals Give Sporting 2-0 Lead At Halftime
Along with their goals, Bravo and Sapong have both have penalty appeals turned down, with Bravo's looking more likely to be given; but if we're going to legalize all fouls on players wearing the #99 jersey (a rule which appears to have been adopted by the referee) I wouldn't complain. We've also seen Sporting midfielder Craig Rocastle leave the pitch with some sort of injury. He's been replaced by Stephane Auvray. Despite the away side's lead, this match is far from over, and it wouldn't be beyond either team to put at least a couple of goals in the second half.
