We’ve seen this story before, haven’t we? Bayern Munich dominant early on, controlling possesion in the first half, but slightly shaky at the back and punished for their defensive weaknesses. Yet again the Bavarians are behind despite having far more of the ball and starting a side with far more potency going forward.
Bayern Munich Vs. Schalke 04: Königsblauen Hold 1-0 Lead At Halftime
Just as in the last update, FCB have looked in control of the game but haven’t managed to create any clear chances and find themselves behind to Felix Magath’s Schalke 04. The visitors from Westphalia have remained defensive, looking to protect their slender lead and pick Bayern off on the break -- unfortunately for them, there haven’t been too many chances of scoring on the counterattack.
For all of Bayern’s possession, they have been pretty dire; anyone doubtful of the quality of FCB’s performance or the attitude of their fans only needed to listen to the cacophony of whistles and boos when Mr. Meyer signaled the conclusion of the first half. Schalke have been camped out around their penalty area for much of the first half, but Bayern haven’t been able to break them down, and haven’t looked like they have the capability to do so. Louis van Gaal doesn’t have a lot to bring in off the bench -- Toni Kroos and Miroslav Klose are his best options. Magath, meanwhile, will be pleased with the composure Schalke have shown. They are halfway to Berlin and a significant bit of revenge for Robben’s brilliance last season.
