The Portland Timbers were already down to their second goalkeeper at the start of the match, but they’ll be playing the second half with their third-string goalkeeper. Adin Brown apparently suffered some kind of injury in the first half, making way for 20-year-old Jake Gleeson to make his MLS debut.
Toronto FC Vs. Portland Timbers: Jake Gleeson Will Play GK In Second Half
Gleeson played for the Timbers U-23 team last year, and has played for New Zealand at the U-17 and U-20 levels. He was reportedly disappointed not to receive a call-up to the senior national team for this weekend’s international friendly.
Gleeson was tested early, as Maicon Santos was allowed to go in 1v1 in the 49th minute. But Gleeson was able to stop the shot and keep the Timbers with a goal. Santos, despite being unmarked inside the penalty area, did not get much on the shot and hit it almost right at Gleeson.
For Toronto FC, they’ve removed Nathan Sturgis and installed Alen Stevanovic, a 20-year-old from Switzerland who was most recently with Inter Milan.
