A goal by Zach Schilawski in the eighth minute and a converted penalty from Shalrie Joseph in the 17th minute have given the New England Revolution a 2-0 lead over DC United. Schilawski’s goal probably should not have been allowed, as he clearly handled the ball in the penalty area. Joseph had sent a cross into Schilawaski from about 45 yards away, Schilawski controlled it but then the ball came up and hit him in the hand. Schilawski’s first shot came off the back of a United defender, but came back to him and he was able to beat Pat Onstad for the game’s opening goal.

The lead became 2-0 when Dax McCarty committed a foul in the penalty area. Onstad guessed the right direction on the ensuing penalty, but Joseph was still able to score his second goal of the year.
United have had about 70 percent of the game’s possession, but so far have nothing to show for it in the 23rd minute.
