We’re getting closer to kickoff for the England-Ghana friendly and Ghana’s lineup to take on a weak looking England team at Wembley has been announced. While there are some questions as to the tactical selections made by Goran Stevanović, who appears to have neglected width in order to focus on the centre, this side looks more than strong enough to give England a very stern test.
England Vs. Ghana, Lineups: Black Stars Opt To Neglect Width
Richard Kingson gets the start in goal for the Black Cats, who appear to be playing a 4-2-3-1 with Anthony Annan and Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu as a double pivot in front of the defence. Bizarrely, Ghana appear not to be playing any true wide players, with Asamoah Gyan starting as a lone striker while Dominic Adiyiah and Kwadwo Asamoah flanking Sunderland’s Sulley Muntari in the midfield. Lee Addy and John Pantsil are the fullbacks, while thankfully the Black Stars have opted not to include both Johnathan and John Mensah on the field at the same time, instead opting to start Isaac Vorsah in the centre of defence.
Although this is still a strong Ghana side, leaving out both Andre Ayew and Prince Tagoe is a little odd when you consider the attacking capabilities of England’s full backs. Adiyiah and Asamoah are going to have a hard time keeping Leighton Baines and Glen Johnson constrained, which should mean lots of overlapping runs as they overload the flanks.
Ghana (4-2-3-1): Kingson; Addy, Vorsah, Mensah, Pantsil; Annan, Agyemang-Badu; Asamoah, Muntari, Adiyiah; Gyan.
Substitutes: Adjei, Opare, Inkoom, Derek Boateng, Tagoe, Ayew, David Addy, Jonathan Mensah, Kumordzi, Clottey, Sowah.
