Calling the England-Ghana friendly an open match would be absurdly understated. It’s a surprise that the match is still 0-0 after 25 minutes, with several chances from both sides to open the scoring. First, Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah found himself one on one with Joe Hart after a terrible piece of defending from Everton centre back Phil Jagielka, before being denied by a spectacular save from the Manchester City keeper from a close-range header. Asamoah Gyan’s 40 yard effort was far less dangerous, but there’s still plenty of ambition in this hard working Ghana side.
England Vs. Ghana: Ashley Young Hits Crossbar
It’s not just the visitors getting chances, though. Ashley Young has just managed to hit the crossbar from four yards and with the goal at his mercy, while the Aston Villa winger was denied earlier by a flying save from Richard Kingson. Stewart Downing would probably have scored after being put one on one with Kingson if only he weren’t so reliant on his right foot, as well. James Milner has been particularly impressive in the midfield, providing the passes that set up England’s best chances, and the hosts’ midfield has comfortably outplay Ghana so far. However, the defence is decidedly shaky looking - this could very easily turn into a shootout.
