We're used to the spectre of violence in football - hooliganism has been around forever and has become part of what outsiders see as the very fabric of the game. Despite attempts to stamp it out entirely, it's still around - more so in some places than others. What's not talked about, though, although it really should be, is police violence towards the fans. You see, with all that talk about hooliganism, the police tend to get a little... exuberant in their dealings with fans sometimes. Check out this footage from Manchester United's visit to Marseille in the Champions League their year:

↵Those are United fans outside the Stade Vélodrome trying to get in. Apparently, they had tickets. How very unpleasant. This is hardly the first time that police have overreacted facing a crowd of foreign fans. Personally, I think that trying to avoid this sort of thing in the future would be a splendid idea... but don’t count on that.
