There had been some speculation that Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov would not be selling his holdings in the club to American businessman Stan Kroenke, who earlier this week acquired a 63% majority and then launched a takeover bid. Rumours to that effect turned out to be true, as Usmanov has now gone public with the news that he has no intentions of selling whatsoever, telling Bloomberg, "I'm not going to sell my stake. I love Arsenal, that's why I'm a shareholder."
Alisher Usmanov Will Not Sell Arsenal Shares
Usmanov represented the last major block of shares not under Kroenke’s control, and this news means that Arsenal will not be under anything even approximating single ownership. This prevents the club being de-listed on the stock market and ensures that there will always be at least some amount of public oversight from minority shareholders - the prospect of losing that was a deeply worrying one for most Arsenal fans.
