Recent encouraging performances by Bari -- a draw against AC Milan, an actual win against Parma -- may have brought a faint belief in miracles to the Galletti, but after spending so much of the season in the basement in Serie A, it was tough to see the team staying up. Sure enough, after a 1-0 loss to Sampdoria, Bari have officially been relegated to Serie B for the 2011-2012 season. The team earned just four wins, their nine draws adding to their tally of 21 points total. Even Brescia, in 19th, are 9 points ahead.
Bari Vs. Sampdoria: Sampdoria Win Relegates Bari To Serie B
So Bari are back down, but we knew that already, well over a month ago. The question now is, who will join them in Serie B? Brescia are five points away from safety. With their form, and their match against Milan this weekend, it's exceedingly unlikely that they'll be staying up. Sampdoria, who needed a penalty kick to actually score against Bari, are doing their darndest to be in Serie B next season. Perhaps they think there will be plenty of cash and prizes awaiting them. Cesena pulled off a 2-0 win over Bologna, but Lecce lost their lead to Genoa, so there's actually quite a bit of competition for that last slot in Serie B.
