Liverpool Vs. Birmingham City: Maxi Notches Hattick In Thumping Liverpool Win

Liverpool finally broke their seven-game winless streak against Birmingham City with a huge win at Anfield. 5-0 was the final score, but the game was over after half an hour, with Maxi Rodriguez opening the scoring in the seventh minute and Dirk Kuyt firing in a second a quarter of an hour later. Birmingham never looked threatening and a Luis Suarez-inspired Liverpool were always threatening to get more goals,

They got them in the second half, with Maxi completing his hattrack, and even Joe Cole got in on the action as the game came to a close, the ex-Chelsea man somehow sneaking the ball past substitute goalkeeper Colin Doyle (Ben Foster was forced to depart in the first half after a collision with teammate Stephen Carr) at his near post. It was an emphatic performance from Liverpool, who've taken seven points from the last nine possible and are hot on Tottenham Hotspur's tails for fifth place in the league.Meanwhile Birmingham have been outscored 8-1 in their past two matches and are only four points clear of the relegation zone. Dangerous times for McLeish and company.
