Mariano Trujillo scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 85th minute as Chivas USA beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 to earn their first victory of the season, the last MLS team to do so this year. The win extends Chivas USA's unbeaten streak to four matches. The Earthquakes continue to struggle at home, where they have yet to win in four matches.
San Jose Earthquakes Vs. Chivas USA: Goats Get First Win Of Season
Trujillo's goal was made possible mainly because of Justin Braun, who was able to get free along the sideline, warded off a tough challenge from Ramiro Corrales and got off a solid shot that Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch could not control. The deflection went right to the feet of Trujillo, who basically allowed the ball the deflect off his leg.
This was easily Chivas USA’s best played match of the season as they outshot the home team 17-13 and were essentially even on possession. Both Trujillo and Braun were second-half substitutes. Braun, in particular, had a strong game after getting off to a rough start this season.
