Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, 2011 UEFA Champions League Semifinal: Cristiano Ronaldo Takes First Shot

We have our first shot of the evening, and it comes as absolutely no surprise that Christiano Ronaldo is the one who took it. There was never anything on with the ball 25 yards out, but that didn't stop Real Madrid's superstar from giving it a go anyway, and he thumped the ball straight at Victor Valdes in the Barcelona goal, who proceeded to goggle the thing up without a problem.

Seconds later, a promising-looking Madrid attack breaks down thanks to a poor pass from Mesut Ozil, but it's been called back for a foul by Lassana Diarra anyway. Carles Puyol urges Wolfgang Stark to produce a yellow card, which is a little bit rich, but you can understand why Barcelona would be wanting their opponents to pick up bookings - the hosts are going to be using as much force as they can possibly get away with all match, and have more than a couple of players at risk for being suspended in the return leg if they get cautioned today.

This is the third of four matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona. You can view our coverage of the April 16th and 20th match here and here, with live coverage of Real Madrid vs Barcelona on April 27 in this story stream.
