Just days after firing coach Pasquale Marino, Parma have their new man. The club have announced that they’ve signed Franco Colomba to lead the team through the end of the 2011/12 season, ending whole days of speculation that they would do exactly what they ended up doing. Colomba hasn’t worked this season after new ownership at Bologna ultimately cost him his job just before the first game of the year, but he has a twenty-year coaching resume with significant (but not particularly impressive) Serie A experience.
Parma Hire Franco Colomba To Lead Team Through 2011/12 Season
Parma aren’t looking for flashy, though - they’re looking to survive, and if Colomba can see them clear of their relegation dogfight they’ll be happy. It’s unclear why they’d sign him through the end of next season when his c.v. screams ‘temporary manager’, but it could be that they were so desperate to hire him fast that they signed him up to whatever deal he asked for. For now, Colomba’s job is to at least maintain the two-point gap separating 15th place Parma from Cessena in 18th.
