It really hasn’t been Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano’s evening at all. He should have had at least two goals already today and now he’s responsible for Barcelona’s third of the night, which probably means game and tie over. From a Barcelona corner, he left Gerard Pique totally unmarked, so Xavi simply passed the ball to the centre back, who flicked a shot essentially straight at goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov. Unfortunately for the visitors, the ball took a nick off Yaroslav Rakitskiy, wrongfooted the now-stranded Pyatov, and rolled slowly into the back of the net.
FC Barcelona Vs. Shakhtar Donetsk, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Gerard Pique Notches Barcelona’s Third
At three-nil down, Shakhtar still desperately need an away goal, but their task is getting more and more difficult by the minute. Heads are down at the Camp Nou and they all look like they’re feeling very sorry for themselves. In fairness to Shakhtar, it’s been an excellent game so far, and they don’t really deserve to be down 3-0. 6-3 Barcelona would probably be fair though.
