FC Barcelona Vs. Shakhtar Donetsk, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Luiz Adriano Hits Post

Mental again at the Camp Nou and Barcelona are lucky to retain their three-goal advantage. A long cross into Victor Valdes’ box evaded everyone but Luiz Adriano making a late run at the far post, and from a very tight angle the Brazilian fizzed a shot past the goalkeeper which looked destined to reduce the deficit to 4-2. Instead, it crashed against the inside of the post, bounced along the line, and ended up carooming into Valdes’ rather grateful arms. Terrible luck for Adriano, who had a great chance to make up for his flurry of mistakes today.

At the other end of the pitch Lionel Messi had the ball in the goal seconds later, but Pedro was ruled offside during the buildup and the goal was waved off instantly. However, that was probably the wrong decision - Pedro looked onside the whole way through, although Messi himself may have been off when the striker squared the ball past Andriy Pyatov to give the little Argentine the tap-in.
