Bundesliga Saturday: League Wide Halftime Review

We had an action packed first half throughout the country, but things started off very bizarrely.

The news broke shortly before kickoff that Diego had walked out on Wolfsburg moments before their most important match of the season. He was unhappy with being left out of Felix Magath’s starting lineup. The match with Hoffenheim has been a very even affair with neither side really having an upper hand. It’s 0-0 at halftime.

Hanno Balitsch grabbed a goal to put Leverkusen up 1-0 on the road against Freiburg. All they need is one point to guarantee an appearance in next season’s Champions League group stage.

St. Pauli climbed ahead of Mainz 05 1-0 just before halftime on a goal by Matthias Lehmann. While the Pirates are already relegated, if would be great for the club if they could go out with a win.

Kaiserslautern jumped out to a spectacular 2-0 lead before 10 minutes had passed at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on goals from Adam Nemec and Rodnei. Srdjan Lakic would add another for FCK in the 30th minute. Torsten Frings would pull one back for Bremen just before halftime to give them hope for a second half only down two goals.

Hannover 96 and Nurnberg would exchange goals in the first half behind Karim Haggui and Julian Wießmeier. The score is even 1-1.

‘Gladbach looks to complete the great escape on the road in Hamburg. Juan Arango scored on a beautiful free kick to give the relegation-threatened side a 1-0 lead.

Milivoje Novakovic scored to give Koln an early 1-0 lead at home against Schalke. Schalke would make two substitutions before the half. Edu would come off for Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Alexander Baumjohann made way for young Julian Draxler.

Frankfurt has struggled to create a lot of chances at the home of the champions, though Theofanis Gekas did hit the woodwork. Frankfurt has to get a goal or they are guaranteed relegation. It's 0-0 at the half.

Stuttgart and Bayern would exchange goals between Shinji Okazaki and Mario Gomez. Miroslav Klose would miss quite possibly the biggest sitter of the season. Embarrassing miss.
