After such an exciting first half, the second half in New Jersey yielded no goals.
New York Red Bulls Vs. Colorado Rapids: Full Time: Match Ends 2-2 After Second Half Yields No Goals
Colorado was far more defensive throughout the second half as the Red Bulls continued to push for the winner. The best opportunity of the second half could come to the foot of New York forward Luke Rodgers. Rodgers would run on to another long ball played by Dwayne De Rosario After beating the Colorado defenders he tried to chip the on-rushing Matt Pickens. Pickens would throw his left hand up just in time to deflect the shot away.
The Rapids continued to sit back and defend, rarely venturing deep into the Red Bulls half of the field even after Conor Casey was subbed on to the field.
The result is a disappointing for the Red Bulls. The defense has surrendered seven goals in their last three matches. Colorado likely comes away from this match with mixed emotions. I’m sure before the match a draw on the road against New York would have been acceptable, but they have to be extremely disappointed with how short their leads lasted tonight. Just minutes after taking two leads tonight, the Rapids saw the Red Bulls quickly equalize.
On Saturday, Colorado will host Sporting Kansas City and New York will travel to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
