Incredible Eric Abidal Comeback Continues With France Call Up

Players come back from injuries regularly and with how gruesome some injuries can be, comebacks from injuries can be remarkable. It is tough to top coming back from surgery to remove a tumor from your liver in mere months though and that is just what Eric Abidal has done. The Barcelona defender was diagnosed with the tumor on March 15, but by May 3 had already made his return for the Catalan club. Now he is making his return to the France national team.

↵Abidal has been named to France’s team for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Belarus on June 3 and then friendlies against Poland and Ukraine. It is just the latest part of his incredible return that could also include a part in Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United.

↵“I left him a message about 10 days ago to say I was really happy to see him back on the pitch,” France manager Laurent Blanc said of Abidal. “Hopefully he will be given a starting spot, he is coming back to form.

↵“He will be delighted to return to the squad and he can bid for a start at left-back. It’s amazing what he has already achieved.”
