According to a report from Sky Sports, Chelsea defender/midfielder Michael Mancienne has been given permission to leave Stuart Pearce’s England U-21 training camp to head to Hamburg, where he will undergo a medical with Hamburg SV. No terms of a deal between HSV, Chelsea, and the player have been disclosed at this point, but Mancienne is believed to be close to signing a four-year deal with the German Bundesliga club.
Bundesliga Transfer Rumors: Chelsea Defender Michael Mancienne Undergoing Medical At Hamburg SV
Mancienne has performed fairly well on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers over the last two seasons, but appears to have little to no future in the first team at parent club Chelsea FC. As a result, this is probably an excellent career move for the young defender. It’s unclear whether HSV see Mancienne’s future as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder; he has played both positions to some degree of success in his career.
HSV are still said to be in hot pursuit of Chelsea central midfielder Josh McEachran, who the Blues would certainly only let leave on a loan deal at this point in time.
