Manchester United Vs. Schalke 04, 2011 UEFA Champions League Semifinal: Antonio Valencia Opens Scoring

Did anyone really think Schalke would be able to come back against Manchester United? Because that was never, never happening. Darron Gibson, who has been impressive since sustaining a rib injury in the 9th minute, slides a very very nice through ball to Antonio Valencia, who dispatches it past Manuel Neuer with a minimum of fuss. Tie over? Well, yes. No less over than it was in the 80th minute of the reverse fixture, though.

Anyway, Schalke have been better, but still pretty dire - and United are playing what’s essentially a reserve team. They have had a couple of opportunities, but have been more than a little undone by poor finishing, but ultimately miserable passing has seen them give the ball up for their hosts far too often. Manchester United are going to Wembley, and they’ll probably do it by way of an absolute rout here at Old Trafford.
