Well now any possibility of this game having an impact on who goes to Wembley has gone, the game has officially decided to go mental. First, the much-maligned Darron Gibson smashed in a medium range shot after a loose ball bobbled into his path - amusingly it bounced straight off Manuel Neuer, hit the post, and bounced into the back of the net. Tie... more done?
Manchester United Vs. Schalke 04, 2011 UEFA Champions League Semifinal: Darron Gibson, Jose Jurado Score In Quick Succession
Not quite, apparently, Jose Jurado has pulled one back with a very similar goal to Gibson’s (although Edwin van der Sar didn’t help that one in). The ball came out to him 16 yards out and the midfielder’s stinging shot into the top corner left the veteran goalkeeper with no chance whatsoever. So, that’s 2-1 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate, but the fun wasn’t done yet.
Antonio Valencia somehow contrived not just to miss a one on one from six yards but to fail to shoot, then a spell of Schalke pressure resulted in a dangerous looking free kick that crashed into the wall. The semifinal is still over, of course, but the game's interesting, at least.
