West Ham United have been pressing very, very hard for an equaliser and now they have one thanks to the thunderous left boot of Thomas Hitzlsperger. They'd had plenty of half chances to draw level against Blackburn after conceding an early goal to Jason Roberts at Upton Park - lots during a late spell in the first half and a few more that had been wasted by the rather profligate strikers Avram Grant had opted to field, the most obvious being when Demba Ba headed wide in yards of space and the goal at his mercy.

But, no matter, a goal was coming. Carlton Cole laid the ball off for Hitzlesperger and the midfielder was able to smash in a shot that blasted its way into the back of the net, and it's 1-1. Minutes later, they came close to adding another when Cole completely missed a free kick that ought to have been headed in, and then Blackburn nearly pulled one back with yet another cross to Jason Roberts - the big Grenadian couldn't get on the end of that one, however.
