Wigan Athletic did just about enough to temporarily escape the relegation zone at Villa Park, but will be left ruing the fact that they threw away an early lead against fellow strugglers Aston Villa. In the tenth minute, Victor Moses danced a merry dance through the massed ranks of claret and blue before squaring to Charles N'Zogbia for an easy finish, but Ashley Young combined excellently with Stiliyan Petrov to five home from a free kick just seven minutes later.
Aston Villa Vs. Wigan Final Score: 1-1 Draw At Villa Park
Both sides had their chances to win the match, the best of those falling to Darren Bent, who failed to convert while one-on-one against Ali Al-Habsi, but a goal never really looked like coming and in the end the game ended up as a 1-1 draw. The point sees Wigan temporarily rise to 17th, depending on the result of Blackpool's late match against Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa are now nearly guaranteed safty, six points clear of the drop zone with two games left to play.
