Tough start to Sevilla who were forced to make an early substitution as Fernando Navarro left the match in the 10th minute with a groin injury. Real Madrid nearly capitalized on Sevilla being down a man as Mesut Özil found Karim Benzema with a great pass but the forward's header sailed wide. Mouhamadou Dabo replaced Navarro.
Sevilla Vs. Real Madrid: Total Domination From Madrid Who Lead 3-0 At Halftime
Real Madrid dominated the half, making it look very easy. Madrid's first goal came in the 21st minute off Mesut Özil corner that found Sergio Ramos in space. Ramos elevated and put a header in off the back of his head. Ten minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo got involved, putting Madrid up 2-0 after a nice header down by Pepe. Sevilla wanted a foul called on Ronaldo who appeared to knock down a defender to create the space, but the referee wasn't listening to their pleas.
Madrid added a third right before the half. Mesut Özil had an open shot, but instead dropped a pass back to Kaká who beat Varas with a hard low shot to the far post. Just a clinic deconstruction of Sevilla by Mourinho’s team.
Commentator Phil Schoen said it best after Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas made a tough save on a Xabi Alonso shot.
“It’s a shooting gallery and Varas is the duck.”
Couldn’t have said it any better.
