A 2-1 home win did Cruz Azul few favours in their quest to knock off Atlante in the Mexican Liguilla. They wasted several chances to make it three or four goals, and now their profligacy may well come back to haunt them. Cruz Azul will have to travel to Cancun hoping that their opponents can't grit out the single goal victory which would see Atlante go through.
Atlante Vs. Cruz Azul, 2011 Liguilla: Both Sides To Attack In Tense Match - FMF State Of Mind
Fortunately for Cruz Azul, a tight game is unlikely, says Nick Rosano of SB Nation’s Mexican Futbol blog FMF State of Mind. Defending isn’t really in either team’s blood (it’s especially not in Atlante’s), so we can expect to see an open, expansive match:
With Atlante needing only a one-goal win and both teams predisposed to attacking, we should see an entertaining matchup on Saturday night in Cancun. Whether Cruz Azul can hold on to their lead and continue their quest for a first title in 13 years or Atlante can continue to play the role of the upstart will hinge on each team’s midfield play and the quality of chances created for two dangerous attacking units. So, expect a few goals and all the entertainment we’ve come to associate with the Mexican Liguilla.
So, will there be goals? Of course there will be. It’s Mexican football, and while the FMF may have many deficiencies, it’s never short on entertainment.
