Javier Morales was clearly in a lot of pain when he went down after being tackled by Marco Mondaini from behind. Now, Real Salt Lake is reporting what seemed apparently on the field: Morales broke his ankle on the play.

Replays showed Morales’ ankle being twisted in a very unnatural way and when he rolled over, his foot did not seem to be pointing straight. It will likely take Morales at least a few months to recover from the injury and it’s very possible that MLS will take the extent of his injury into account when determining how to punish Mondaini.
