It’s been a crazy start to the second half. UANL Tigres starting it (surprise!) on the attack, and within thirty seconds Luis Michel was forced to acrobatically tip a right-footed piledriver over his crossbar after Damien Alvarez took aim from outside the penalty area. Hugo Ayala then volleyed inches wide from a corner, almost scraping off the paint at the far post - it all looekd like the hosts were on the verge of getting that vital first goal against Chivas Guadalajara.
UANL Tigres Vs. Chivas Guadalajara, 2011 Liguilla: Juninho Shown Straight Red For Scissor Tackle On Alberto Medina
But then disaster struck. Chivas went on the attack for the first time in what seemed like all match, and Tigres centre half Juninho went to ground just outside the box in a weird scissor tackle on Alberto Medina as the midfielder surged forwards. Unfortunately for Tigres, he made contact, bringing Medina down in a less-bad-than-it-looks-but-still-quite-bad tackle, and referee Morales Ovalle reached for his back pocket, showing the defender a straight red card.
Chivas wasted their free kick by firing straight into the wall, but they’re still going to be extremely pleased - Tigres’ task was hard enough with eleven men, let along ten. It’s going to be almost impossible for them to get through to the next round now. Madness from Juninho, who had come very close to scoring the opener right at the end of the first half, where a well-struck free kick hit the underside of the crossbar.
