Mexico Vs. New Zealand 2011: El Tri Up 1-0 On Giovani Dos Santos Goal

Uh oh, we might have a little bit of a selection controversy on our hands. Giovani Dos Santos has scored for Mexico to put them 1-0 up on New Zealand, and this isn't an isolated incident. Gio was fantastic when he came on for Sinha against Ecuador, and he's been great throughout this entire game thus far. He has pace and flair that Sinha simply doesn't have at his advanced age, and that's going to present a serious problem for manager Chepo de la Torre.

The goal was created by Carlos Salcido, bombing forward from his left back position. He put in an absolute screamer of a cross, one which Glen Moss had no chance of catching. He simply punched it away best he could, and the ball fell to Gio, who finished nicely. Everyone knew that Gio had pace and flair, but his positioning on the goal was great. If he's learned that as well, Mexico might finally have the Gio they've been waiting for.
