New Zealand aren’t exactly world beaters, but Mexico supporters and Chepo de la Torre probably can’t help but smile widely after their team’s first half performance. El Tri lead by a score of 3-0 at halftime, and their three goal lead is very well deserved. Giovani Dos Santos has been brilliant in relief of Sinha, scoring two goals, while Aldo de Nigris redeemed himself after a poor start to the game with Mexico’s third goal.
Mexico Vs. New Zealand Score: Giovani Dos Santos Brace, Aldo De Nigris Goal Has El Tri Up 3-0 At Halftime
As good as Gio has been and as much of a selection controversy as that creates for Chepo, the biggest story should probably be Mexico’s wingers. Andres Guardado and Pablo Barrera are absolutely having their way with the All Whites on the wings, which is very similar to both players’ previous three performances in an El Tri shirt.
With the game very much settled and the first team proving that they’re ready for the Gold Cup, it would be nice to see some role players get a run-out in the second half. The likes of Jose Torres Nilo, Jesus Zavala and Elias Hernandez are sitting on the bench, just waiting for an opportunity to show Chepo what they can do.
