The backsliding of Real Salt Lake has been well documented. After a blazing start in which they threatened to lock up the Supporters’ Shield by midseason, they’ve fallen back to the pack. After their 1-1 tie with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, they aren’t even leading on points per match.

But that tie against the Union showed that while they may be short-handed, this is not a team that should be taken lightly. Keon Daniel gave the Union a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute at PPL Park -- where they are yet to lose this season -- and the Union were looking dominant. RSL, though, was able to turn it around in the second half and earned a point, avoiding their first two-match losing streak of the season.
The goal was once again provided by the new forward do of Espindola-Jean Alexandre, normally a midfielder who has been pressed into action up top because of a combination of injuries and international call-ups. Alexandre now has a goal and two assists since moving to forward three matches ago.
