Eric Hassli continues to show that as long as he can stay on the pitch, he is among the most dangerous players in MLS. The 30-year-old Designated Player scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season, including an equalizing wondergoal in the 85th minute, that stole a point for the Vancouver Whitecaps in a 2-2 tie with the Seattle Sounders.
Seattle Sounders Vs. Vancouver Whitecaps: Eric Hassli Wondergoal Steals Point
The two-goal effort included his third from the penalty spot, which was impressive in its own right. Facing down one of the top goalkeepers in the league and one that has shown a penchant for stopping penalties, Hassli chose to chip it down the middle. It was the kind of goal that requires some serious confidence, something that he displayed again on the equalizer. With his team yielding the go-ahead score just about a minute earlier, Hassli took a half volley from just outside the penalty area. He said he didn’t look at the target, but that didn’t keep it from beating Keller as the shot caromed in off the far post.
The Sounders flip-flopped between dominance and ineptitude throughout the match, but were looking to be headed for another disappointing result at home through 80 minutes. But Mauro Rosales scored his first MLS goal in the 81st minute and Osvaldo Alonso gave the Sounders the lead with a 84th minute strike.
