The five Mexican National Team players that were removed from the Gold Cup roster after testing positive for clenbuterol, have now passed a second drug test according to Mexico football officials.
Five Banned Mexico Players Pass Second Doping Test
Fransisco 'Maza' Rodriguez, Guillermo 'Memo' Ochoa, Edgar Dueñas, Sinha, Ricardo Osorio and Christian 'Hobbit' Bermudez were all suspended after Mexico's first Gold Cup match despite claims from the federation and players that the positive test were caused by contaminated meat consumed during the team's pre-tournament camp outside of Mexico City. There is apparently some precedent for meat causing false positives for clenbuterol on drug test and the results of these new tests seem to lend credence to the claim.
The players have now requested a second backup “B” test of the initials samples from May 21st that started this controversy. Despite the results of the new test, the five players remain out of the Gold Cup until the results on the new “B” sample test come back. A clean “B” sample likely means immediate reinstatement for the players, awhile another positive will likely force the FMF to continue their investigation.
