If Honduras are going to defeat Costa Rica at New Meadowlands Stadium today, they're going to have to do it without most of their best players. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Wilson Palacios hasn't been playing for Los Catrachos in this Gold Cup, but many hoped he would make his debut. Unfortunately, manager Luis Fernando Suarez says that he's out as he is 'only 65 percent recovered' from his injury. Along with Palacios, Edder Delgado will miss out due to injury, while Alfredo Meija is suspended.

These injuries leave Honduras extremely thin in midfield, and they’re going to have to get creative to fill out a reasonable looking team against Costa Rica. Adding to their woes is the fact that striker Carlo Costly, the most experienced and consistent forward on the roster, is a doubt.
There’s one piece of good news for Honduras, and that is that Emilio Izaguirre is healthy by all indications. If he plays against Costa Rica, the man who is widely regarded as the best left back in the Scottish Premier League will be a massive boost to his team.
If Honduras gets through to the semifinal, they're facing a likely date with Mexico, who play Guatemala in the quarterfinals today. Without Palacios, Izaguirre and Costly, they might as well kiss their chances goodbye. If all three players are available, we might have one heck of a great semifinal on our hands.
